About Us

Where tradition guides innovation.

Who We Are

Project Acharya-AI is the digital innovation initiative of The Madras Sanskrit College, envisioned to explore how modern technologies—especially Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models—can support the future of Sanskrit learning, research, and preservation.

The project is evolving through a structured process of exploration, planning, and implementation, focusing on understanding possibilities, refining goals, and identifying areas where AI can meaningfully contribute to Indian Knowledge Systems

Our journey began on 2 October with a traditional kuthu vilakku lighting ceremony, followed by an ideation session led by distinguished experts Dr. Deepak Paramasivam and Dr. Suresh Venkatasubramaniyan. Their guidance helped lay a strong conceptual foundation for this long-term initiative.

Project Acharya-AI aspires to develop digital tools and applications that enhance accessibility, support scholars and learners, and offer innovative solutions rooted in our rich textual heritage. As the initiative progresses, the platform will serve as a collaborative space for scholars, researchers, and technologists shaping its future direction.

What we do

  • Conduct ideation sessions with scholars and technology experts.
  • Study emerging LLM models and evaluate their relevance to Sanskrit.
  • Document needs and challenges faced by learners, teachers, and researchers.
  • We digitise and curate published texts, manuscripts, and other Shastric and Sanskrit data into machine-readable format.
  • Develop conceptual blueprints for AI-enabled learning tools.
  • Build a collaborative platform for project discussions and resource sharing.

Our Mission

To explore and design innovative AI-driven solutions that can support the learning, research, digitization, and accessibility of Sanskrit and Indian Knowledge Systems, while preserving the academic integrity and classical traditions of The Madras Sanskrit College.

Academics

Professional services and upskilling

We are committed to supporting Sanskrit scholars in understanding and upskilling themselves in modern technology. Through guided sessions, collaborative workshops, and hands-on exposure to AI tools, we aim to bridge the gap between traditional scholarship and contemporary digital innovation.

As the project evolves, scholars will have opportunities to engage with emerging technologies, contribute their domain expertise to development discussions, and play an active role in shaping the future of AI-enabled Sanskrit learning. Our goal is to ensure that technological progress strengthens, rather than replaces, the depth and authenticity of classical knowledge.
