Project Acharya-AI is the digital innovation initiative of The Madras Sanskrit College, envisioned to explore how modern technologies—especially Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models—can support the future of Sanskrit learning, research, and preservation.
The project is presently in its ideation and planning phase, focusing on understanding possibilities, defining goals, and identifying areas where AI can meaningfully contribute to Indian Knowledge Systems.
Our journey began on 2 October with a traditional kuttu vilakku lighting ceremony, followed by an ideation session led by distinguished experts Dr. Deepak Paramasivam and Dr. Suresh Venkataraghavan. Their guidance helped lay the conceptual foundation for this long-term initiative.
Project Acharya-AI aspires to develop digital tools and applications that can enhance accessibility, support scholars and learners, and bring innovative solutions rooted in our rich textual heritage. As we move forward, this platform will serve as a collaborative space for scholars, researchers, and technologists shaping the project’s direction.

To explore and design innovative AI-driven solutions that can support the learning, research, digitization, and accessibility of Sanskrit and Indian Knowledge Systems, while preserving the academic integrity and classical traditions of The Madras Sanskrit College.

We are committed to supporting Sanskrit scholars in understanding and upskilling themselves in modern technology. Through guided sessions, collaborative workshops, and hands-on exposure to AI tools, we aim to bridge the gap between traditional scholarship and contemporary digital innovation.
As the project evolves, scholars will have opportunities to engage with emerging technologies, contribute their domain expertise to development discussions, and play an active role in shaping the future of AI-enabled Sanskrit learning. Our goal is to ensure that technological progress strengthens, rather than replaces, the depth and authenticity of classical knowledge.
